Recurrent cryptogenic stroke in young adult linked to congenital left ventricular diverticulum.

چکیده
A 47-year-old man had an acute ischemic stroke (IS); brain MRI revealed multiple silent old IS (figure 1A). A comprehensive workup, including prolonged cardiac monitoring (cumulated duration of 25 days) and cardiac transthoracic/transesophageal echography, was negative. Eleven months later, despite statin and aspirin therapy, a new symptomatic embolic IS of undetermined source occurred (figure 1B). Cardiac MRI revealed a left apical dyskinetic saccular evagination (figure 2, A–C) consistent with a congenital left ventricular diverticulum Figure 1 Brain MRI showing both recurrent acute symptomatic and silent old infarctions within multiple territories

Peripheral arterial embolism due to a left ventricular diverticulum in a young adult.
A 32-year-old man was admitted to the emergency department of our hospital after experiencing a peripheral arterial embolism. Investigation of the possible embolic sources in an otherwise asymptomatic patient revealed the existence of a left ventricular diverticulum. The left ventricular diverticulum is a rare congenital anomaly, either isolated or as a part of a syndrome including other congen...
متن کاملLeft atrial size and risk of recurrent ischemic stroke in a Chinese population
BACKGROUND Although a number of studies have reported the role of an increased left atrial (LA) size on stroke, limited data are collected about the relationship between LA enlargement and recurrent ischemic stroke in the Chinese population. Our aim was to assess the association of LA size with the risk of stroke recurrence, particularly with recurrent cardioembolic or cryptogenic stroke in isc...
متن کاملRaghib Syndrome Presenting as a Cryptogenic Stroke: Role of Cardiac MRI in Accurate Diagnosis
Raghib Syndrome is a rare developmental complex, which consists of persistence of the left superior vena cava (PLSVC) along with coronary sinus ostial atresia and atrial septal defect. This Raghib complex anomaly has also been associated with other congenital malformations including ventricular septal defects, enlargement of the tricuspid annulus, and pulmonary stenosis. Our case demonstrates a...

Cryptogenic stroke, a stroke for which there is no specific attributable cause after a comprehensive evaluation for the most common causes, accounts for about one-fourth of stroke patients. Most cryptogenic strokes are thromboembolic and occur more frequently in y...
متن کاملIsolated Congenital Left Ventricular Diverticulum in Adults
Isolated congenital ventricular diverticulum or aneurysm is rare and usually arises from the left ventricle. The presentation of this condition is diverse. We report three cases of isolated congenital left ventricular diverticula. The age range was 17-30 years. Chest X-ray provided the earliest clinical suspicion in these three cases of a cardiac anomaly which was diagnosed by echocardiography ...
